Kuyakom was called armor of the metallic plates, rectangular or round, collected each separately to the leather or cloth basis. Kuyaki were manufactured with the sleeves and without the sleeves; had hems how caftan. Kuyak could be strengthened on the breast and the back by large armour boards - "panels". Such armors exist in Russia with THE XIII on THE XVII century and have close analogies in West Europe. Term itself "kuyak" appears only in THE XVI century.

Sometimes to the pipes fastened for the adornment quadrangular "curtains" from taffeta or brocade with the silk, gold-plated or silver-plated fringe and the brushes. In the marches the pipes hid into the cloth cases - "nagalishcha".
On the glorious Russian warriors it is discussed in the "word the regiment of Igor": "under the pipes to poviti, under shelomy they are cherished".
